Box Score
Lethbridge – Playing in their 2014-15 home opener, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's basketball team could not recover from a poor opening quarter and suffered their first loss of the season, falling 77-62 to the visiting Winnipeg Wesmen.

With the loss the 'Horns fall to 2-1, while the Wesmen remain undefeated and move to 3-0.

Newcomer Allexia Barros led the Pronghorns with 15 points and sophomore Mariah Miller picked up her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Fellow sophomore Zoe Dahl picked up 13 points in the loss.

For the Wesmen, Stephanie Kleysen led all scorers with 24 points and Megan Noonan picked up 18 points in a game that saw 10 Wesmen register at least one basket.

The Wesmen stormed out of the gate to open the contest. Stephanie Kleysen hit back-to-back three's to get the ball rolling for the Wesmen and the hot shooting continued throughout the opening quarter. On the strength of the long range ball, the Wesmen jumped out to a 16-5 lead and a 26-10 lead at the end of the quarter, shooting a scorching 6 for 11 from behind the arc.

Conversely, the opening quarter couldn't have been any worse in the first 10 minutes; the 'Horns turned the ball over 10 times and shot a dismal 2 for 12.

Whatever head coach Erin McAleenan said to her team during the first break seemed to work. After being down as many as 17 points, the Horns cut the Wesmen lead down to as few as four in the second quarter, but still found themselves down nine at the half.

After struggling mightily in that opening quarter, the 'Horns comeback was fueled by taking better care of the ball and finding a bit of a rhythm offensively. The 'Horns shot just over 57% in the second quarter, while the Wesmen cooled off and were only 1 for 6 from behind the arc after hitting six three's in the first quarter.

The second half got off to a slow start with only two buckets scored in the first four-and-half minutes of the third quarter, both by the Wesmen.

From there on out it was all Wesmen in the third quarter, going on a 19-7 run and building a lead of 25 points with one quarter to play.

While the 'Horns won the fourth quarter 22-12, the damage was done and they suffered their first defeat of the early season.

The 'Horns and Wesmen will clash again tomorrow night, tip-off is set for 5:00pm at the 1st Choice Savings Centre. The game will also be webcast on http://canadawest.tv.
