Lethbridge – The start of the New Year was not kind to the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's basketball team and they will look to halt a three-game losing streak this weekend versus southern Alberta rival Calgary Dinos.

Tip-off for the two-game series is set for Friday at 6:00pm and Saturday at 5:00pm at the 1st Choice Savings Centre. Both games will also be streamed live on http://canadawest.tv.

In their first conference action of 2015, the 'Horns were handed a pair of losses by the UBC Thunderbirds last weekend, which dropped their record to 4-8.

With seven teams in the Pioneer Division qualifying for the post season, the 'Horns enter the weekend tied in wins with Victoria and Trinity Western for that final spot, but the Victoria Vikes hold two games in hand on both the 'Horns and Spartans.

Following last weekend's games, the 'Horns dropped in conference statistical rankings – moving from ninth to 12th in offence and now average 62.8 points per game through 12 games this season. Defensively, the 'Horns only dropped one spot to 10th, allowing 68.4 points against.

Despite scoring under her season average both games last weekend, fifth-year forward Kim Veldman still leads the conference in scoring and is ranked third in the country, averaging 20.8 points per game. She also sits sixth in Canada West rebounding, grabbing 8.2 boards.

Allexia Barros and Mariah Miller sit second and third in scoring for the 'Horns, averaging 14.2 and 11.6 points respectively. Barros is sixth in Canada West in assists per game with 4.2.

Coming off a bye last weekend, this will be the first conference action of 2015 for the Dinos (6-5). Calgary lost their last game of 2014, 65-33 to the Alberta Pandas, but had won their previous four games prior to that.

Statistically the Dinos sport the 10th ranked offence in Canada West, scoring 64 points per game, while being ranked seventh defensively, surrendering 62.8 points against.

Through 11 games this season, the Dinos have had 13 players see floor time, but do not have anyone that is averaging double digits in points. They do however have six players averaging more than six points per game.

Claire Colborne leads the Dinos with 8.5 points per game, while Brianna Ghali is averaging 8.2 and Kristie Sheils is chipping in with 7.5 per game.

During non-conference action in early October, the Dinos beat the 'Horns 59-32 in Calgary.

The 'Horns will have a bye next week, before traveling to Victoria to face the Vikes. February 6th and 7th will be the 'Horns final home conference games of the season when they host the Saskatchewan Huskies.
