Box Score Lethbridge - Fresh off a bye-week and looking to earn their first road win of the year, the Calgary Dinos controlled the game from start-to-finish to hand the Lethbridge Pronghorns their fourth-straight loss 82-65 Friday night at the 1st Choice Savings Centre.

Calgary improves to 7-5 on the season with the win, while Lethbridge drops to 4-9 on the year.

The Dinos entered this weekend averaging just 64 points per game but came out firing in the opening quarter – putting up 27 points on the strength of sophomore forward Kelsey Lund's 5-5 shooting to take a nine-point lead into the break.

Lethbridge withstood a 12-0 Dino run early in the quarter and fired back as 3rd-year guard Allexia Barros hit a pair of jumpers and sophomore Zoe Dahl dialed-up a three-pointer.  Senior post Kim Veldman led the Pronghorns with seven points in an opening frame that saw six 'Horns get onto the score sheet to give Canada West leading scorer Veldman some much needed support on the offensive end.

In a theme that would continue throughout the night, Calgary generated 13 second-chance points in the quarter, crashing the glass and picking up eight offensive rebounds after several long-range misses.  Kristie Sheils, who came into the game hitting better than 50% of her three-point attempts, went 2-4 from downtown and added three assists in the quarter.

Two of the lowest scoring teams in Canada West continued to find the back of the basket in the second quarter.  Veldman dominated for the 'Horns, putting up nine in the quarter including a three-pointer that cut the Dino lead to six early in the frame.  However, the Dinos erupted on an 18-2 run over the next five minutes to push their lead to 22 with two minutes to play in the half.  Lethbridge responded with a 6-1 mini-run of its own to narrow the Dino lead to 51-34 at halftime.

Lund continued to pace the Dinos attack with 14 points and eight rebounds after two quarters.  For Calgary, who came into this contest without a player in the top-20 in conference scoring, it was a balanced attack with 10 players contributing points.

Calgary shot 52.9% on 18-34 shooting in the opening half, while the Pronghorns took nine fewer attempts and hit on 44% of their shots.

The second half got off to a slow start as both defenses found their stride and clamped down on what were previously uncontested shots.  A pair of free-throws by Laurie Sanders finally put the Dinos on the board three minutes into the third quarter.  Veldman traded jumpers with Lund and kept the 'Horns within 20, but the Dinos were relentless on the offensive end, pushing past their season average midway through the quarter on their way to a 71-46 advantage after three.

Calgary played to its strength, going deep into their line-up to find 40 points coming off the bench compared to 18 from the Pronghorns.  In the end, the 'Horns gave up too many second chance points and offensive rebounds to get back into the game and the Dinos rolled to a 17-point victory.

Veldman led the Pronghorns with 22 points on 9-17 shooting, while Barros chipped in with 10 points on the night.

Lund posted a double-double, leading the Dinos with 16 points and 12 rebounds.  Lawrie Saunders added 14 points on 6-9 shooting.

The two teams will meet again Saturday night at the 1st Choice Savings Centre.  Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00pm in a game that marks the annual Shoot for the Cure event for the Lethbridge Pronghorns.
