Box Score REGINA, Sask. – One night after dropping their first conference game of the season to Lethbridge, the University of Regina's men's basketball team avenged that loss with a big 90-66 win over the Pronghorns on Saturday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
The win improves Regina's record to 3-1 as the Cougars and Lethbridge move into a tie for third place in Canada West's Pioneer Division.
"Regina really came to play tonight," said head coach Mike Hansen. "Coach Burrows made some great adjustments and our guys didn't respond."
"We as a coaching staff have to have them better prepared for the realities of playing on road."
Aaron McGowan had his best game as a Cougar, coming off the bench to score a game-high 16 points in the win. McGowan was 4-for-6 from three-point range for the U of R and also chipped in defensively with three steals.
Three other Cougars hit double figures in points, led by 13 from both Alex Igual and Travis Sylvestre. Brandon Tull added 12 points, while Will Tallman scored 11 and Brian Ofori had a game-high seven rebounds.
Brandon Brine led Lethbridge with 11 points as the Pronghorns suffer their first loss of the Canada West schedule. The 'Horns will now prepare for a pivotal home series against Victoria (5-1), which will see both teams go into Friday coming off their first loss of the Canada West schedule.
"We had poor leadership today and have play with better composure if we're going to compete in Canada West," said Hansen.
The Cougars are also back in action next weekend. They'll travel to Edmonton to square off with Alberta (2-4) on Friday and Saturday.
