‘Horns face ranked Pandas in season finale

Lethbridge – For a second consecutive week the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's basketball team faces a nationally ranked team, but this weekend it will be on the road, traveling to Edmonton to face the fifth ranked Alberta Pandas.



The 'Horns and Pandas will hit the hardwood in Edmonton Friday night at 6:00pm and Saturday night at 5:00pm. Both games will be streamed live on http://canadawest.tv. This season, University of Alberta and Canada West have partnered in a pilot project to gauge the viability of future subscription-based viewing purchases.
 
Fans interested in viewing Alberta home games will have the choice between the $1.99 single-game access or the $6.99 full-season subscription.  All other Canada West games will be available for viewing without subscription. Proceeds from the pilot will be reinvested into CanadaWest.TV.
 
The 'Horns (4-14) were swept last weekend at home by the third ranked Saskatchewan Huskies and enter the final weekend of the season mired in a nine game losing streak. The Pandas (14-4) on the other hand are third in the Pioneer Division and still have a chance to finish first with two wins.
 
A week after facing the top defending team in Canada West, the 'Horns will now face to top scoring team in the conference. The Pandas (14-4) lead Canada West with 75.7 points per game. The 'Horns hold the 14th ranked offence in Canada West at 61.4 points per game.
 
Players to watch:
 
Standout post Kim Veldman will play the final two games of her Pronghorn career this weekend and will attempt to finish the season as the conference leading scorer. She is currently in the top spot with 19.8 points per game but Fraser Valley's Sarah Wierks is nipping at her heels, averaging 19.6 points per game.
 
Veldman will finish her career as the programs all-time leading rebounder and second leading scorer. Entering this weekend, Veldman has 789 rebounds and 1375 points.
 
American guard Allexia Barros has had a solid first season with the Pronghorns and sits ninth on the conference scoring list with 15 points per game.
For the high flying Pandas, Saskia Van ginhoven leads her team in scoring with 16 points per game, while Jessily Fairbanks and Sally Hiller are averaging 11.5 and 10.6 points per game respectively.
