Dominant second half pushes the ‘Horns past the Golden Bears

Lethbridge – The Pronghorns men's basketball team beat the Alberta Golden Bears on Friday night, downing their northern Alberta rivals 93-61.
 
Brandon Brine was massive for the 'Horns, putting back 37 points, to go along with six rebounds and three assists, while Dejon Burdeaux returned from injury to put up 10 points, eight assists and eight steals. Lyndon Annetts lead his Golden Bears with 20 points and Colby recorded a 10 point, five assist night.
 
The win moves the 'Horns to 8-5 on the season and into a three-way tie for fourth in the Pioneer Division with Regina and Winnipeg. The Bears fall back to the 500 mark at 7-7.
 
The first quarter saw both squads go for the beans, as the 'Horns and Golden Bears both put up points, but wouldn't let each other out of their sights, and as a result the game remained close the whole quarter. The Golden Bears came out of the first frame with a 19-15 lead.
 
Not much changed in the second quarter, as the teams swapped baskets, but neither was able to create much separation for themselves. The 'Horns and Golden Bears continued this closely matched ball game to the half, with the Golden Bears retaining the lead, but only by a point. 39-38 Golden Bears to the dressing room.
 
Lyndon Annetts led the Golden Bears with 18 first half points, and the 'Horns Brandon Brine led his club with 11 points.
 
The rebound side of the game was close too, 18-17 for the Golden Bears to the half.
 
The Golden Bears shot 48.3% from the field and 44.4% from the three-point line. The 'Horns went 38.7% from the field, and 42.9% when shooting three-pointers.
 
In the third quarter, the 'Horns come out ready to play, and the Golden Bears weren't ready for what the 'Horns had coming. The quarter was dominated by the 'Horns, who created some separation for themselves, and took a 70-53 lead to the fourth and final quarter. Brandon Brine had himself a monstrous quarter, dropping 19 points.
 
To start the fourth quarter, the 'Horns kept the pedal to the floor, and just ran over the Golden Bears, who only managed to pot 9 points in the quarter. Late in the fourth, Carl Hoffman showcased his toughness and was a beast in the paint, netting himself seven points in just 11 minutes played. The 'Horns cruised in the final quarter, and walked away with the 93-61 victory.
 
Overall, the 'Horns shot 51.5% from the field, and 48.0% on three-point attempts. The Golden Bears went 36.4% from the field, and 30.3% from beyond the three-point line. The 'Horns out-rebounded the Golden Bears, 41-28.
