Lethbridge – After dropping the front half of the home-and-home series Thursday night, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's basketball team rebounded to earn the weekend split with the Mount Royal Cougars with a 61-53 win.

The win moves the 'Horns record to 2-2 on the season, while the Cougars now sit at 1-1.

Zoe Dahl led the way for the Pronghorns with a game high 22 points, while Katie Hankins scored 14 points and Jessica Bachynski returned to the lineup after missing Thursday night's game and recorded a double-double with 11 points and 16 boards.

Becky Nash was the lone Cougar to hit double digits and led her team with 21 points.

Both teams had tough shooting nights, each finishing under 30% from the floor. The 'Horns finished the night shooting only 25.7% (19-74) and Cougars had a slightly better shooting night at 29.6% (21-71).

Neither team was able to find much of an offensive rhythm in the opening quarter but the 'Horns held a 16-8 lead after 10 minutes. The 'Horns were 6 for 19 from the floor but hit one three and three free throws, while the Cougars only hit four of 20 shots in the quarter and didn't attempt a free throw.

Coming off her first double-double Thursday night, Katie Hankins continued her strong play and lead all scorers with eight points in the quarter.

The 'Horns continued to push in the second quarter, building on their lead throughout the quarter and holding a 35-19 lead at half time. In the half, the 'Horns shot 32.6% (14-43) and the Cougars were a cool 22.9% (8-35) and missed all nine three shot attempts.

Hankins scored another six points to finish the half with 14 to lead all scorers and Zoe Dahl hit for nine points on 3 of 7 from behind the arc. For the Cougars, Becky Nash put up eight first half points to lead her team.

Out of the break, the Cougars scored the first three points and cut the lead to 12 points, which is where the deficit would hover for the entire quarter. Outscoring the 'Horns 14-11 in the quarter, the Cougars cut into the lead but still trailed by double digits.

A 5-0 run to start the fourth, brought the Cougars within single digits for the first time since early in the second quarter. The 'Horns lead bounced between single and double digits for much of the fourth quarter but  Marina Kehrig's jumper with just over a minute to play brought the Cougars within seven.

Off a Cougar turnover, freshman Isabel Rattai hit a three pointer, her first of her career, to answer back and bring the lead back to 10 points.

The 'Horns will head out on the road next week, traveling to Winnipeg to face the Winnipeg Wesmen. The Cougars will also head out on the road, heading west to take on the UBC Okanagan Heat.
