Winnipeg – Playing in the first of two in Winnipeg, the Lethbridge Pronghorns dropped a 73-58 decision in a key Canada West clash with the Winnipeg Wesman at the David F. Anderson Gymnasium.

The Wesmen, coming off a thrilling overtime win last weekend at Saskatchewan, gave up the game's first bucket, but gave up very little after that, outscoring Lethbridge 22-10 in the first quarter and taking a 46-28 lead into halftime.

The Wesmen led by as many as 24 in the first half, and watched as the Pronghorns trimmed the lead to 12 in the third quarter before a Billy Yaworsky three stopped an 11-3 Pronghorn run late in the quarter and pushed the lead back to 15.

That would be as close as the Pronghorns would get as the Wesmen outscored the 'Horns 12-10 in a low scoring fourth quarter.

The 'Horns struggled from behind the arc all night, finishing the game 1-13 from long distance, while the Wesmen were a solid 7-22. The 'Horns were also outrebounded 32-25, including only two offensive rebounds all night and turned the ball over 22 times.

Sean Tarver and Narcisse Ambanza both finished with 14 on the night to lead all Winnipeg scorers and Yaworsky had a career-high 13 with five rebounds.

Elliott Sentance led Lethbridge with a game-high 21, and Dejon Burdeaux added 13.

The 'Horns fall to 3-2 on the season, while Winnipeg improved to 4-1 on the season and stayed in the top three in the Canada West in the process.

The two teams meet up again Saturday (7 p.m.).
