Winnipeg – Facing the undefeated the Winnipeg Wesmen, the Lethbridge Pronghorns struggled offensively all night and dropped a 69-38 decision to the Wesman in the first of two games in Winnipeg.
The 'Horns shot than less than 23% on the night, while the Wesmen had no such struggles from the floor, hitting on better than 40% on the night and were a scorching 62% from behind the arc, hitting 5 of 8 three balls on the night.
Winnipeg with the win improves their regular season record to 5-0. The Pronghorns with the loss falls to 2-3.
The hometown Wesmen opened up a 16-6 lead after the first quarter and then Winnipeg took control. The Wesmen exploded for 27 points in the second quarter and held the Pronghorns to 15 to take a 43-21 lead into the halftime break.
Winnipeg never trailed in the third quarter and a three pointer by Kerri Kuzbyt extended the Wesmen to over 20 points at 52-28. The score after three quarters was 56-31 with Winnipeg in full control.
Antoinette Miller led the Wesmen with 18 points. Megan Noonan added 13. Kerri Kuzbyt finished with eight points and four assists. Faith Hezekiah led the team with a game high 11 rebounds.
Lethbridge was led by Teesha Olson's 16 points, including three-three pointers. Jessica Bachynski pulled down 11 rebounds.
The two teams will wrap up their weekend series on Saturday. Tip off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
