‘Horns and Dinos renew acquaintances in home-and-home series

Lethbridge – Following a tough road trip last weekend, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's basketball team takes on southern Alberta rival Calgary Dinos in a home and home series, beginning Thursday night in Lethbridge.
 
The 'Horns and Dinos will hit the hardwood at the 1st Choice Savings Centre Thursday at 6:00pm. The return affair will go Saturday night in Calgary, tip-off is slated for 5:00pm. Both games will be streamed live on www.canadawest.tv.
 
Last weekend, the 'Horns (2-4) suffered their first sweep of the season, losing both games to the undefeated Winnipeg Wesmen in Winnipeg.
 
Through six conference games, the 'Horns are ranked 12th defensively, allowing 66 points against per night and ranked 17th offensively, scoring 51.2 points per contest.
 
Chehalis, Washington product Katie Hankins leads the 'Horns offensively thus far with 10.2 points per game. Zoe Dahl sits second at 9.5 points per game, while second-year guard Teesha Olson moved up to third after this past weekend and is averaging 8.5 points.
 
Coming off their bye week, the start to the new season has been an up-and-down affair. After opening the season with a home sweep over the Manitoba Bisons, the Dinos were swept by the Victoria Vikes on the road two weeks ago.
 
The Vikes clipped the Dinos 58-51 and 55-54 in two closely contested games.
 
Statistically, the Dinos hold the third ranked defense in Canada West, allowing only 53.3 points against per game and enter this weekend, ranked 11th offensively, scoring 61.8 points per game.
 
Individually, Brianna Ghali is the lone Dino to average double digit points thus far and leads the Dinos in scoring with 14.8 points per game. Ghali sits second in Canada West in three point shooting percentage, hitting 55.6% of her shots from long distance.
 
Bobbi Jo Colburn and Erin McIntosh are tied for second on the team with 7.8 points per game.
 
The 'Horns will close out the 2016 portion of their Canada West schedule next weekend on the road, heading west to Langley, BC to face the Trinity Western Spartans.
