Pronghorns lose second in a row to Dinos

CALGARY – After dropping a tight game to open the home-and-home series Thursday night, the Lethbridge Pronghorns stumbled out of the gates and were never able to recover, dropping their second consecutive game to the Calgary Dinos, 72-47.
 
The loss drops the 'Horns record to 2-6 on the season, while the Dinos improve to 4-2.
 
Despite a tough shooting night by her team, Teesha Olson led the 'Horns with 23 points and Katie Keith was the next highest scorer for the Pronghorns with 8 points. Ghali led the Dinos with 20 points, boasting a 9-17 from behind the arc and four assists. Colburn added 11 points in yet another stellar game, going 3-3 in three-pointers, while also adding five rebounds and one assist.
 
From the first tip, the Dinos were in control of the contest, grabbing an early, 11-0 lead over their rivals. Despite desperate valiant attempts by Lethbridge, Calgary continued to lead throughout the opening quarter, building a 22-7 lead at the first break.
 
The University of Calgary continued to extend their lead in the second quarter as Anmol Mattu scored the first three points of the quarter and they never looked back, entering half time with a 23 point lead (39-19).
 
In the opening half, the 'Horns continued their road struggles offensively, shooting a dismal 12.5%, including going 0 for 15 from behind the arc. On the other side, the Dinos shot a hot 46.9% from the floor and were 4 for 12 from long range.
 
Entering the third quarter, the Dinos showed no sign of slowing down, up-keeping a 29 point lead and putting any doubt of a Pronghorn comeback out of the question. Entering the fourth, the Dinos held a 57-29 lead.
 
The 'Horns did win the fourth quarter 18-15 but the game was well in hand for the Dinos and they cruised to their fourth win of the season.
For the game, the Dinos remained hot from the floor hitting a scorching 48.3% in field goals, 32% success in three-pointers. The 'Horns had a tough 21.7% from the field and were 2 for 19 from behind the arc.
The 'Horns will put a wrap on the first semester of conference play next weekend, traveling to Langley to face the Trinity Western Spartans.
