‘Horns travel to Winnipeg playing spoiler role

Lethbridge – The Lethbridge Pronghorns women's basketball team will wrap up their road games of the season in Winnipeg this weekend when they take on the Wesmen.

The 'Horns are mathematically eliminated, so they are looking to grab a couple wins to end the season on a positive note, and play the role of spoiler for the Wesmen, who are on the outside looking in right now, but will have the chance to get back into the playoff picture with wins against the 'Horns.

The Wesmen are riding high coming into the weekend, after sweeping their provincial rival, the Manitoba Bisons last weekend. The 'Horns lost both games they played last weekend to the Calgary Dinos.

Tip-off for both games is set for 6:00pm Friday and Saturday night and both games can be seen on canadawest.tv.

The teams, who both have losing records on the season, are evenly matched. The 'Horns average 51.8 points per game, and shoot 28.8% from the field, 26.1% from the three point line, and average 36.4 rebounds per game. The only large difference the Wesmen have is in points per game, where they average more than 10 more than the 'Horns, at 63.4. They shoot 33.7% from the field, 26.2% from way back, and average 38.3 rebounds per game.

The young 'Horns team will look to set the tone for next season, and improve on the 1-15 they have so far this campaign. The Wesmen need these two wins to give themselves a chance at jumping into the playoffs.

Zoe Dahl has heated up in the later stages of the season, and now averages 9.2 points per game, and 2.6 rebounds per game. She is second on PPG average to freshman Katie Keith, who averages 9.3 a game.

Megan Noonan leads the Wesmen, averaging 15.3 points per game. The 4th year guard also averages 4.2 rebounds per game.

Next weekend, the 'Horns return home to finish off the season against the Trinity Western Spartans.
