Lethbridge – After a month off from conference action the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's basketball team returns to Canada West action this weekend, hosting the UNBC Timberwolves in the first games of 2017.

The 'Horns and Timberwolves square off at the 1st Choice Savings Centre, Friday night at 6:00pm and will wrap up the weekend set Saturday night at 5:00pm. Both games will also be streamed live on www.canadawest.tv.

Despite the conference shutting down for the semester break the 'Horns did see action after Christmas, traveling to California to face two junior college programs. After losing their opener to Biola University, the 'Horns handed San Diego Christian College a 61-54 loss.

Through the first half of the season, the 'Horns (2-8) are ranked 17th offensively in Canada West, averaging 53.1 points per game and are ranked 11th defensively, allowing 67.8 points.

Second-year Teesha Olsen leads the team offensively, averaging 10.4 points per game. Katie Hankins and Zoe Dahl sit just behind Olsen averaging 9.8 and 9.5 points per game respectively.

The Timberwolves (3-7) return to action on a two-game winning streak, after closing out the first semester on conference action with a weekend sweep of Thompson Rivers and have won three of their last five games after opening the season with five consecutive losses.

Statistically, the Timberwolves are ranked sixth offensively, scoring 66.6 points per game but are ranked 15th defensively, allowing 70.6 points per game.

The pair of Maria Mongomo and Vasiliki Louka are the offensive catalyst for the Timberwolves, averaging 16 and 15.3 points per game, but also get the job done on the glass. Louka is averaging 8.5 rebounds per game, while Mongomo is picking up 8.3 boards.

The Pronghorns will remain at home next weekend, hosting the defending National Champion Saskatchewan Huskies.
