Lethbridge – Coming off their fourth consecutive sweep this season, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's basketball team will get their stiffest test thus far, traveling to Regina to face the nationally ranked and U SPORTS Championship host Regina Cougars.
Tip-off is slated for both Friday and Saturday night a 6:00pm Central Time and both games will be streamed live on
www.canadawest.tv.
"We look forward to playing a national contender in their gym this weekend," said Pronghorn head coach Dave Adams. "Competing against a top-ranked Regina program gives us a benchmark in our positive growth."
"The Cougars are talented, deep and very well coached as Dave Taylor has built a powerhouse there."
The Pronghorns and Cougars didn't face each other last season in conference action but, Regina swept a pair of games in Regina in non-conference games.
A look at the teams
The Pronghorns are in unchartered territory, sitting at 8-0 for the first time in the program's history.
With a pair of 20-point wins over the Thompson Rivers last weekend, Lethbridge is one of two teams that haven't lost this season. Saskatchewan sits 6-0 having already had their bye this season.
Offensively, the Pronghorns are ranked third in Canada West, scoring 76.3 points per game. The Pronghorns are also ranked third defensively, allowing 60.6 points against.
Following a surprising loss to the UNBC Timberwolves last Saturday, Regina (5-1) dropped in the U SPORTS top 10 rankings from first to third.
Statistically, the Cougars hold the second ranked offence in Canada West, scoring 82 points per game and are ranked fourth defensively allowing 62 points against per game.
Players to watch
This week's Pronghorn athlete of the week, Kacie Bosch continues to lead the Pronghorns from the guard position, averaging 12 points per game to go along with 5.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists and has been a calming influence in the Pronghorns back court.
Senior guard Zoe Dahl sits second in Pronghorn scoring with 10.8 points, while Danielle Fritzke has continued to provide a spark off the bench, averaging 10.3 points per game.
Regina's attack is led by second-year guard Kyanna Giles, who averages 17.3 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, while Charlotte Kot and Carolina Goncalves average 12.2 and 10.7 points per game.
