Lethbridge – Coming off the first set backs of the season, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's basketball team will look to end the first semester of conference action on a strong note, hosting the Fraser Valley Cascades for a pair of games at the 1
st Choice Savings Centre.
The Pronghorns and Cascades will take the Court Friday night at 6:00pm and Saturday night at 5:00pm. Both games will be streamed live on
www.canadawest.tv.
"We look forward to battling a talented UFV team back on our home court," said Pronghorn head coach Dave Adams. "The Cascades have some high end talked and are well coached, so we expect two close games this weekend."
At half time of the men's game Saturday night, Pronghorn Athletics will announce the final 10 members of the greatest 50 Pronghorns of 50 years.
This weekend's games are the first between the two schools since the 2013-14 season, when the Cascades beat the Pronghorns in Abbostford.
Senior Zoe Dahl is the lone Pronghorn to face Fraser Valley in conference play.
A look at the teams:
The Pronghorns (8-2) dropped their first games of the season last weekend, being swept by the U SPORTS third ranked Regina Cougars in Regina.
Despite dropping both games, the Pronghorns are still ranked third offensively in Canada West, averaging 74.3 points per game. Last Saturday was the first time in seven games that the Pronghorns scored fewer than 70 points.
After allowing 97 and 84 points against last weekend, the Pronghorns dropped to ninth in team defence, allowing 66.6 points against per game.
Fraser Valley (4-6) comes to Lethbridge following a home sweep against the UBCO Heat last weekend. Prior to last weekend, Fraser Valley had lost four straight games.
Statistically, the Cascades are ranked 14
th offensively, scoring on average 62.1 points per game but hold the fifth best defence in Canada West, only allowing 64.7 points against.
Players to watch:
Kacie Bosch and Zoe Dahl continue to lead the team in scoring, averaging 11.9 and 11.3 points per game. Bosch is also averaging 5.2 rebounds per game.
First-year wing player Amy Mazutinec has had a nice start to her university career, averaging 8.7 points per game, while sitting second on the team in rebounding, averaging 6.1 boards per game.
For the Cascades, three players account for 69% of the teams scoring. Senior forward Shayna Litman leads the team with 16.4 points per game, while third-year forward Taylor Claggett sits second with 13.9 points per game.
Former Pronghorn Sara Simovic sits third on the team with 12.3 points per game. Simovic played two seasons with the Pronghorns and was named to the Canada West Rookie team in 2014.

All of Canada West heads into the semester break but the Pronghorns will play two non-conference games on the road during the break, facing Montana Tech (Dec. 29) and Carroll College (Dec. 30). The second semester of the Canada West Schedule will start the first weekend in January with the Pronghorns traveling to Winnipeg to face the Manitoba Bisons.
