Lethbridge – With a short turnaround this week, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's basketball team will hit the home court Thursday night in the front half of a home-and-home series with southern Alberta rival Mount Royal Cougars.

Tip-off Thursday night is slated for 6:00pm at the 1st Choice Savings Centre, with the return affair going Saturday night in Calgary at 6:00pm. Both games will be streamed live on www.canadawest.tv.

"We are looking forward to playing at home again against a well-coached MRU team," said Pronghorn head coach Dave Adams. "The Cougars have good size and are among the league leaders in rebounding."

"We are going to need to address their height advantage in order to keep our early season win streak rolling."

A season ago, the Pronghorns and Cougars split their home-and-home series with both team's winning on their home floor.

This year during the preseason, the Pronghorns beat the Cougars in Calgary 74-61.

A look at the teams

Coming off their second consecutive weekend sweep, the Pronghorns (4-0) are one of only three teams to remain undefeated in Canada West and are tied with Victoria and Thompson Rivers for first place.

Thus far, the Pronghorns sit fourth offensively in Canada West, averaging 77.8 points per game and are seventh defensively allowing 64 points against.

The Cougars (0-4) have had a tough start to the 2017-18 season, dropping all four games so far. In their last action, the Cougars were swept by the Fraser Valley Cascades, dropping games by the scores of 68-47 and 74-61.

Statistically, the Cougars are ranked last in team offence, scoring only 54.8 points per game, and rank 13th defensively, allowing 74.3 points against per game.

Player to watch

Danielle Fritzke came off the bench last weekend and sparked the Pronghorns offence. Friday night she hit six three-pointers to lead all scorers with 18 points. Through four games she sits second in team scoring behind Kacie Bosch with 11 points per game.

Bosch continued her strong play in her first season with the Pronghorns, leading the team with 13 points per game. She is also averaging 6 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.

Not surprisingly, the Cougars only have two players averaging double digits in points so far this season. Becky Nash leads the Cougars with 10.8 points per, while Charity Marlatt averages 10 points per game.

Next up: The Pronghorns will head out on the road for the next two weekends, heading to Kamloops to take on the Thompson Rivers WolfPack next weekend and then the Regina Cougars the following week.
