Must win for the Pronghorns in Edmonton

2/9/2017 1:07:00 PM

Lethbridge – With two games remaining the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's basketball team is still in the hunt for a playoff berth but face a tough task on the road, travelling to Edmonton to face the Alberta Pandas.

The Pronghorns and Pandas will hit the hardwood at the Saville Community Sports Centre Saturday afternoon at 2:00pm and Sunday night at 5:00pm. Catch all the action on www.canadawest.tv.

The top 12 teams from the 2016-17 regular season standings – based on win-loss records – will earn post-season berths, with Ratings Percentage Indexes (RPI) then used to seed the playoff teams at the conclusion of play Sunday. Sitting one game back of the MacEwan Griffins and UNBC Timberwolves, the Pronghorns (5-13) will need to win at least one game this weekend and hope for some help if they are to qualify for the post-season.

The Pandas (15-3) are guaranteed a spot in the playoffs and are currently ranked third in RPI but there is an outside chance the Pandas could move up to first with some help as well this weekend.

Look at the teams statistically

On paper, the Pandas hold the advantage at both ends of the court, ranked second in Canada West defence, allowing 57.3 points against and ranked eighth offensively scoring at a clip of 67.3 points per game. Despite being ranked eighth offensively, the Pandas have the second best field goal percentage in the conference at 41.3%. The Pronghorns enter the weekend, ranked 11th defensively (69.6 ppg) and 16th offensively (59.8 ppg).
