LETHBRIDGE – With both teams already assured a playoff spot, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's basketball team will host the Alberta Pandas to close out the 2017-18 Canada West conference schedule.
The Pronghorns and Pandas hit the hardwood, Friday night at 6:00pm and Saturday night 5:00pm at the 1
st Choice Savings Centre. Both games will be streamed live on
www.canadawest.tv.
Saturday night, the Pronghorns will also participate in the Value Village Fun Drive. Fans that donate soft goods such as clothing, bedding and shoes will get free admission into Saturday night's game.
A Look at the Teams:
Heading into the final two games of the regular season, the Pronghorns (10-8) will make their first post-season appearance since the 2009-10 season. Currently the Pronghorns hold the 9
th ranked RPI and will have to head out on the road for a play-in game for the first round of the post-season.
With two games to play, the Pronghorns hold the seventh ranked offence in Canada West at 69.9 points per game and the 10
th ranked defence, allowing 69.4 points.
The Pandas (10-8), who are 5-1 in the New Year, enter the weekend with the seventh best RPI and are poised to host a play-in game in the first round, but can still move up in the RPI rankings with a pair of wins this weekend.
This season the Pandas success has come from strong defence, holding the fourth ranked defence in Canada West, allowing 63.2 points per game. However, the Pandas offence sits 14
th, only scoring 62.7 points per.
Players to Watch:
Guard Zoe Dahl will play her final conference home games this weekend and leads the Pronghorns in scoring this season, averaging 11.9 points per game.
Kacie Bosch sits second in team scoring at 11.8 points per game, and the Pronghorns also have five other players averaging seven or more points per game.
For the Pandas, Emma Kary is the lone Panda to average double-digits in points this season, averaging 11.8 points per game.
Panda forward Elle Hendershot sits second in Canada West rebounding, averaging 12.1 boards a game. She also sits second in Pandas scoring with 9.8 points per game.
