A look at the teams:
Coming off one the most successful seasons in program history the Pronghorns enter the season ranked ninth in the Canada West coaches poll and look to build on a 11-9 record from a season ago, the best the program had in 23 years.
The Pronghorns return a veteran laden team with nine returning players and the only significant departure being Zoe Dahl, who tied the team scoring lead last season.
Among the returnees, Kacie Bosch will be looked to lead the team. Bosch tied with Dahl for the team scoring lead last season averaging 12.2 points per game. All five of the next top Pronghorn scorers on the Pronghorns return this season.
New comers Asnate Fomina and Logan Moncks will provide an immediate impact for the Pronghorns as they look to take another step in becoming a top team in Canada West. The Latvia native, Fomina transferred from NCAA Division 1 Fordham University, while Moncks was the 2016-17 ACAC Player of the Year on the Lethbridge Kodiaks National Championship team.
For MacEwan, the season got off to a rocky start last weekend, dropping both games to crosstown rival Alberta Pandas. The Pandas beat the Griffins 81-58 and 74-56.
Mackenzie Farmer and Kayla Ivicak lead the Griffins offensively during the opening weekend, each averaging 10 points in the two games.
A season ago, the Pronghorns swept the Griffins in Edmonton and the Griffins finished the season in 14
th place in the Canada West standings with a 4-16 record.
