Pronghorns look to rebound versus Winnipeg

LETHBRIDGE – Heading into the final two weeks of conference play before the semester break, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's basketball team will attempt to return to their early season winning ways, hosting the Winnipeg Wesmen for a pair of games at the 1st Choice Savings Centre this weekend.
 
The Pronghorns and Wesmen hit the court Friday night at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday night at 5:00 p.m. Purchase tickets online at https://uleth.universitytickets.com/w/default.aspx. Both games will also be streamed live on www.canadawest.tv.
 
A look at the teams:
 
The Pronghorns (4-2) had a four winning streak snapped this past weekend with a pair of losses in Edmonton at the hands of the Alberta Pandas. The Pandas took control of each game late en route to close 68-62 and 68-59 wins over the Pronghorns.
 
Coming out of their first conference losses of the season, the Pronghorns, dropped from 7th to 12th in Canada West team offence, averaging 68.7 points per game and dropped to second defensively and through six games this season are allowing 58.3 points against per game.
 
Winnipeg (1-7) enters the weekend on a two game losing streak as well and their lone win thus far came two weeks ago versus the MacEwan Griffins, 75-34. The Wesmen lost both games last weekend versus the Saskatchewan Huskies at home.
 
Statistically, the Wesmen are ranked 12th defensively, surrendering 72.8 points against per game and sit 13th offensively, scoring 63.9 points per contest.
 
Players to watch:
 
Amy Mazutinec and Kacie Bosch pace the Pronghorns attack this far this season, averaging 11.7 and 11.5 points each respectively.
 
Fourth year guard Katie Keith set a new career high for rebounds in a game with 15 last Saturday, en route to her third double-double in the last four games. Keith sits seventh in Canada West rebounding at 9.3 rebounds per game. She is also averaging 9.3 points per game.
 
For the Wesmen, Faith Hezekiah and Farrah Castillo account for more than half of the Wesmen's offensive output thus far this season. Hezekiah sits third on the Canada West scoring list, averaging 20 points per game. She also sits in the top 10 in rebounding, averaging 8.9 rebounds per game.
 
Castillo sits second on the Wesmen with 13 points per game.

The Pronghorns will close out the first semester of Canada West action next week with a home-and-home series with the Calgary Dinos. The Pronghorns will host the Dinos Thursday night, before closing out the 2018 portion of the Canada West schedule Saturday night in Calgary.
