Pronghorns host Vikes looking to solidify post-season position

LETHBRIDGE – Following a weekend sweep, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's basketball team hits their home floor this weekend, jockeying for playoff positioning and hosting the Victoria Vikes for a pair games that will have post-season implications.
 
The Pronghorns and Vikes hit the floor at the 1st Choice Savings Centre Friday night at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday night at 5:00 p.m. Both games will also be streamed live atwww.canadawest.org.
 
Saturday night's game will also be the Pronghorns 'Shoot for the Cure' game. The U SPORTS Women's Basketball fundraising initiative is in its 12th year and has donated over $1.25 million to date. The Pronghorn women's basketball alumni will be running a silent auction on the track Saturday night with all proceeds being donated to cancer charities.
 
A look at the teams
 

Entering the final three weeks of conference action the Pronghorns (7-7) are sitting in 10th in Canada West standings and are ranked 11th in RPI. The top 12 teams qualify for the playoffs. The top 12 teams are then ranked 1 to 12 based on each team's RPI standing in order to account for the various strength of schedules faced by each team.
 
The Victoria Vikes (8-6) sit one spot ahead of the Pronghorns in the standings but sit fifth in RPI and would host a play in game during week one of the playoffs. In their last action, the Vikes split their home series with the Fraser Valley Cascades.
 
Statistically speaking not much separates the two teams. The Pronghorns hold the ninth best offence in Canada West at 69.6 points per game, while the Vikes sit two spots ahead of the Pronghorns at No. 7, scoring 74.4 points per game.
 
On the other side of the ball, the Pronghorns sit in eighth in points allowed per game at 66.9 and the Vikes are ranked 13th, allowing 74.7 points against.
 
Players to watch  
 
Kacie Bosch, coming off an impressive stat line Thursday night in Calgary, continues to lead the Pronghorns offensively with 13.6 points per game. Last Thursday versus Mount Royal, Bosch scored a game high 25 points to go along with nine rebounds, seven assists and five steals.
 
Senior-guard Danielle Fritzke sits second in Pronghorn scoring with 11.4 points per game.
 
For the Vikes, fifth-year guard Amira Giannattasio leads the Vikes offensively and fifth in Canada West scoring with 18.6 points per game.
 
Guards Ashlyn Day and Aleah Ashlee are also averaging double digit points per game chipping in with 13.6 and 10.4 points per game respectively.

The Pronghorns will host their final home games of the regular season next weekend, hosting the Trinity Western Spartans next Friday and Saturday night.
