LETHBRIDGE – Seeking to halt a losing skid, the Lethbridge Pronghorn men's basketball teams opens the second semester of conference action traveling to Saskatoon to take on the Saskatchewan Huskies.
The Pronghorns and Huskies will clash Friday and Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. CT and both games will be streamed live on
www.canadawest.tv.
A look at the teams
After opening the season with four straight wins, the Pronghorns (4-6) have dropped their last six conference games and are currently tied for 11
th in Canada West.
Still among the top scoring teams in Canada West, the Pronghorns are ranked third offensively, scoring 90.4 points per game but have dropped to seventh defensively, allowing 80.2 points per game.
Despite the losing streak, the Pronghorns are ranked first in steals (11.1), free throw attempts (25.4) and free throws made (18.6) per game
Saskatchewan (7-5) begins the second semester only two wins out of second spot and were tough at home during the first semester only losing once in six home games.
Statistically, the Huskies sit fifth offensively, averaging 87.8 points per game, but are ranked 13
th defensively, allowing 85.8 points against.
The Pronghorns and Huskies did not face each other last season and in their last meeting during the 2016-17 season, the Huskies swept the Pronghorns.
Players to watch
Four of the Pronghorns five starters averaged double digits in points during the first semester. Mike Pierzchala leads the team with 17.9 points per game.
Senior Zac Overwater is a close second with 16.3 points per game, while leading the team in rebounds with 7.5 per contest.
For the Huskies, senior guards Lawrence Moore and JT Robinson lead their squad with 20.7 and 16 points per game respectively but they also rely on a balanced attack with five Huskies averaging 10 or more points per game.
