11/30/2019 1:00:00 AM

Box Score VANCOUVER - The UBC Thunderbirds (7-2) captured their fifth straight victory with a commanding 109-86 win over the Lethbridge Pronghorns (3-6) at War Memorial Gym. It's the third consecutive triple-digit scoring performance for the 'Birds, who entered the weekend with the second most points per game in the Canada West (89.6) and the second highest field goal percentage (47.0).

Jadon Cohee led the UBC attack with 23 points and seven assists while teammate Manroop Clair was just behind with 22 and Grant Audu added 20 for the 'Birds who returned to home court after two consecutive weeks on the road.

Kyle Peterson exploded with a team-best 23 points and nine assists for Lethbridge while Zachary Coleman-Brock added 21 in the loss. Colton Gibb posted 12 points and a team-leading seven rebounds.

The 'Birds led 22-12 after Clair's second triple, and finished the first quarter up 31-23 after a Zack Moore steal sprung Clair for a smooth eurostep finish. Peterson went off in the second quarter - scoring 16 points in the frame - to bring Lethbridge within two at 43-41. UBC regrouped coming out of a timeout, and reclaimed their 10-point advantage heading into halftime up 57-47. UBC shot an impressive 68.7% from the field and went eight for 14 from beyond the arc in the opening half.

While their offence was clicking in the first half, the T-Bird defence went to work in the second half to lock down on Peterson and widen their lead to 84-70 after the third quarter. Clair and Cohee continued to cook as UBC's scoring depth was on full display to overpower the Pronghorns en route to victory.

The Thunderbirds and Pronghorns will square off in a rematch on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. PT inside War Memorial Gym to close out the 2019 portion of their Canada West schedule. Catch all the action on www.canadawest.tv, presented by Co-op.
