Brandon, Man – Heading out on the road for the first time in the young Canada West season, the Lethbridge Pronghorns couldn't corral Brandon Bobcats shooting, dropping a 103-89 decision to the Bobcats in Brandon.
The Bobcats had six players in double figures with first-year Dominique Dennis and fifth-year captain Jaleel Webb leading the way with 19 points each.
Haashim Wallace and Anthony Tsegakele scored 18 points apiece, while Tsegakele grabbed 17 rebounds for his first career double-double.
The Bobcats and Pronghorns exchanged 8-0 runs in the opening quarter. BU caught fire from beyond the arc hitting six three pointers in the first.
The gap closed on Brandon's lead as Lethbridge found rhythm in the second. Williams, who finished with 11 points, responded with a critical buzzer beater three pointer to give the 'Cats a 50-41 advantage at the break.
Brandon carried the momentum over and started the third with an 8-3 run. The Bobcats outscored the Pronghorns 16-5, before a 7-0 run by trimmed the deficit.
The Pronghorns pushed late in the final frame and cut the lead down to eight, but that is as close as they would get.
Chad Oviatt had 21 points and 10 rebounds for Lethbridge, while Keanu Funa also had 21 points as the Pronghorns slipped to 0-3.
"We finished well in the fourth quarter, but they just wanted it more throughout the game," said Funa. We need to start with that intensity at the beginning."
The Bobcats and Pronghorns close out the weekend series on Saturday at the Healthy Living Centre.
