Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Pronghorns stung by Cougars attack

CALGARY – Coming out of the bye week, the Lethbridge Pronghorn men's hockey team couldn't put an end to a losing streak, falling 6-2 to the Mount Royal Cougar in the front half of a home-and-home series.

Following a three game winning streak to move to 3-1, the Pronghorns are now stuck in the midst of the five game losing streak and fall to 3-6-0 on the season.

The Cougars, the highest scoring team in the conference is trending in the other direction winning their third game in a row and sit at 7-2-0, only two points behind the Alberta Golden Bears for top spot in Canada West.

The first period began slowly as each team tried to gain their footing. Mount Royal was pushing back against a Pronghorns offensive as they vied for control.

17 minutes into the contest, the Cougars opened the scoring with defenseman Jesse Lees slotting home his fifth of the season.

Mount Royal asserted themselves early in the second period and were rewarded just past the five-minute mark as Mitch Lipon snuck a shot past Pronghorns goalie Taz Burman. Just over two minutes later, the Cougars extended the lead to three on a Brandan Arnold shorthanded goal.

Late in period on another a power play, the Pronghorns cut into the Cougars lead. Landon Gross snapped home his third of the season and brought the Pronghorns with in two entering the third period.

Looking to cut into the lead again early in the third, the Pronghorns had some good early looks but could not beat Cougar netminder Wyatt Hoflin.

The Cougars blew the game open with three goals in just under four minutes apart. Brad Kennedy started the streak with his third of the season, while Nolan Yaremko and Nic Sicoly each picked up their firsts of the season in just over a minute.

Pronghorn Freshman Michael Clarke rounded out the scoring with a power play marker with just less than five minutes to play but that would be as close as they would get.

The Pronghorns will look to rebound tomorrow night back in Lethbridge, puck drops at 7:00 pm at Nicholas Sheran Arena. Catch all the action on www.canadawest.tv, presented by Co-op.
