Pronghorns take on undefeated Dinos in home-and-home series

LETHBRIDGE – Coming off a weekend split to open the second semester of Canada West action, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's basketball team faces a stiff test this weekend in a home-and-home series with the undefeated and U SPORTS #2 ranked Calgary Dinos.
 
Game one of the two game set goes in Calgary Thursday night at 6:00pm with the rematch Saturday night in Lethbridge at the 1st Choice Savings Centre at 5:00pm. Both games will be streamed live on www.canadawest.org, presented by Co-op.
 
A look at the teams:
 
With the split last weekend with the Regina Cougars, the Pronghorns (6-6) remain at .500 and are tied for sixth place in wins but have played two more games than Fraser Valley and Winnipeg. The Pronghorns will have their bye weekend following the Mount Royal series next week.
 
Statistically, the Pronghorns sit in the middle of the pack in both team offense and defence through 12 games. The Pronghorns are ranked eighth defensively, allowing 67.6 points per game and sit ninth offensively, scoring 66.3 points per game.
 
Making her first appearance of the Canada West season, senior guard Asnate Fomina had an immediate impact last weekend. Over the two games last weekend, Fomina averaged 18 points and five assists and was a key contributor in both games.
 
Local products Kacie Bosch and Katie Keith continue to be keys to the Pronghorns success. Bosch, is averaging 14.7 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, while Keith sits second in the conference in rebounding with 9.7 per game. She is also chipping in with 9.7 points per game.
 
Through their first 10 games this season, the Calgary Dinos (10-0) have been perfect, including a impressive road sweep of the UBC Thunderbirds to open the Canada West season. In their last action, the Dinos handed the UNBC Timberwolves consecutive losses in Calgary.
 
Statistically, the Dinos have been equally dominate, holding the conference's second best offense and defence. Calgary is averaging 75.5 points per game, while only allowing 51.2 points against. The Dinos also sit first in Canada West in steals (15.1) and blocks (4.2) pre game.
 
The trio of Liena Stalidzane, Bobbi-jo Colburn and Erin McIntosh account for just over 50% of the Dinos offense per Game. Stalidzane leads the Dinos with 14.8 points per game, while Colburn and McIntosh average 12.7 and 10.5 points respectively.

For the second week in a row, the Pronghorns will participate in a home-and-home series but next week face the Mount Royal Cougars beginning Thursday night in Calgary.
