Pronghorns season ends at the hands of the Golden Bears

EDMONTON – For the fourth straight season, the Lethbridge Pronghorns' season has come to an end in Edmonton, falling 92-81 in the Canada West quarter-final to the No. 3 ranked Alberta Golden Bears on Saturday afternoon at Saville Community Sports Centre.
 
With the win, the No. 1 seeded Golden Bears will battle the No. 4 Manitoba Bisons in the semifinal, after Manitoba beat Victoria 81-61 in the quarter-final earlier in the day in Edmonton.
 
The Bears vs Bisons playoff game will be their first post-season meeting since the 2017 Canada West Final, won by the Bears 92-73.
 
The win for the Bears is also marks the fourth-straight year they have eliminated Lethbridge in the playoffs.
 
Adam Paige led Alberta with a game-high 17 points, with Brody Clarke scoring 14, and Tyus Jefferson adding 12.
 
Lethbridge was led by Jeffrey Rodehutskors and Colton Gibbs, who each scored 16. The 'Horns actually outshot the Bears 49% to 43%, but made just six of their 17 free throws.
 
Alberta opened with a 28-17 lead after the first, thanks to 5/11 shooting from three, and seven points from Jefferson.
 
In a very physical contest, the Pronghorns turned up their defensive pressure in the second, allowing just 18 points from Alberta. Lethbridge scored 21, thanks to another four points in the quarter from Rodehutskors, trailing 46-38 at the half.
 
Alberta outscored Lethbridge by just three in the second half, hanging on to the lead the built in the first quarter.

The fourth quarter between the rivals was hot and physical, with the teams exchanging tough fouls and three-pointers.
 
Jefferson made a pair of free throws late, sealing the Bears 11-point win. 
 
The Bears and Bisons will start their semifinal at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow afternoon, with the game available online on Canada West TV presented by Co-op.
