Pronghorns drop back-to-back games to Dinos

CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos used three second-half goals to put away the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns, 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at Dinosaur Field.

The Dinos carried momentum into the game after taking their first lead of the season late on Saturday for their first win of 2021. Calgary scored once in the first half before the offence got settled and dazzled in the final 45 minutes.

The Dinos improve their record to 2-0-2, while the Pronghorns continue to search for their first win at 0-5.

Calgary's first goal came in the 30th minute when Erik Kobza put in a left-footed attempt, with an assist on the play going to Derek Brust.

The first 20 minutes saw plenty of action involving Kobza, along with Kundai Dziwa and William Fiore, with Lethbridge goalkeeper Nolan French striking down their chances. Dziwa tore down the sideline showing off his footwork and put the 'Horns four-man backline in a state of constant reset.

Lethbridge's Karim Bey was also dangerous with a shot off the crossbar in the 21st minute, followed closely by two more chances that were stopped by Dinos goalkeeper Jake Ruschkowski.
Shot attempts were even at the half, with both sides attempting five, while the Dinos hit the target three times, compared to the Pronghorns two.

The Dinos doubled their lead in the 53rd minute with a goal by Dziwa, who sprinted up the middle of the field before launching a shot into the far-right corner. Brust, who finished with a pair of assists in the match, followed up with another goal minutes later as he buried a second-chance opportunity.

French was busy in the final minutes, making a pair of big saves off corner kicks by Kobza, followed by a heavy shot from Fiore. The Lethbridge 'keeper was unable to stop the Dinos from adding a fourth goal though, as Kyarash Nakhjiri rounded out the scoring in the 87th minute.
French finished the game with four saves in the loss, while midfielder Danilo Morales led the Pronghorns with two shots on goal.

The Pronghorn will be back on the University Community Stadium field next Saturday and Sunday, hosting the Alberta Golden Bears.
