LETHBRIDGE – Competing in the first university based meet of the season, the early season results continue to be positive for the Pronghorn swim team as they build toward the Canada West Championship at the end of November in Edmonton.

"UBC and Calgary are great programs and I am pleased with our showing in some of our best events," said Pronghorn Head Coach Peter Schori. "Our men winning the first relay with a Pronghorn record was great, but we have improvements to make at UBC this weekend."

"Overall, I'm proud our team, their positive attitude and support for each other is A+."

On day one, the Pronghorn men's relay squad of Adam Stromberg, Parker Brown, Raine Arden and Apollo Hess broke a school record en route to top spot in the 200 freestyle relay. The relay crew currently sits ranked second in the country in the event.

With a time of 1:32.00, the group broke the schools previously held by Ryan Thornley, Duncan Donaldson, Scott Hunter and Nick van de Sloot that was set during the 2013-14 season.

Individually, Apollo Hess continues to shine and after breaking two records in his first meet, he broke another one this past weekend. Hess broke the 'Horns record in the 100 metre breaststroke and swam the fastest time in the 50 meter breaststroke. He finished second in the same discipline in the 100 and 200 metre distances.

Adam Stromberg and Chris Alexander both finished third in the 50 metre freestyle and backstoke events respectively.

On the women's side, newcomer Hunter Stewardson had the best finish by a Pronghorn, finishing seventh in the 50 metre breaststroke, while Emilia Hesterman was eighth and Taryn Lachman ninth in the same event.

As a relay team the Pronghorns were fourth in the 200 freestyle relay and fifth in both the 200 medley and 400 medley.

The Pronghorn swim team will head out the west coast next weekend to compete in the Colleges Cup – Pacific hosted by the UBC Thunderbirds.
