CALGARY – Facing the nations top ranked Calgary Dinos, the Lethbridge Pronghorns could contain fifth-year midfielder Montana Leonard, whose hat-trick lifted the Dinos to a 4-0 victory in Calgary Sunday afternoon.
Leonard opened the scoring just 11 minutes in on a feed from Kelsie MacDonald. Less than 10 minutes later, she deflected a perfect feed from Talia White just inside the post, and the Dinos entered halftime with a 2-0 lead.
Leonard added one more goal in the second half to secure the hat trick and her seventh goal of the season on a goal assisted by Rachel Barlow. First-year forward Grace Moore got in on the action and added a fourth goal in the 84th minute to seal the win for the Dinos.
Pronghorns' goalkeeper Erin Gill was fantastic, stopping nine shots including a specular diving save in the second half of action. Second-year midfield Lucy Mundy proved to be a menace on the defensive end throughout the game for the Pronghorns.
The Dinos improve to 4-0-0 in the regular season after applying pressure early and often to Lethbridge.
The Pronghorns (0-4) will have a week off before taking on the Dinos again, on October 2nd at the University of Lethbridge Community Stadium.
The Dinos (4-0-0) will take on the Mount Royal Cougars (1-3-0) next Friday and Saturday, Sept. 24 and 25, with both games to be played at Dinosaur Field at 5 p.m.
