KELOWNA – After digging an early hole, the Lethbridge Pronghorn men's soccer team couldn't mount a comeback Sunday, dropping a 4-1 decision to the UBCO Heat in Kelowna.
Coming off a well-earned scoreless draw Friday night in Victoria, the Pronghorns were not able to carry that momentum into Kelowna and had to settle for a disappointing result to wrap up the two game trip.
The Heat scored twice in each half, including an opening goal before the game had hit the five minute mark. Karim Bey responded for the Pronghorns to cut the deficit to 2-1 at half, but the Heat would score in the 58
th and 67
th minutes to seal the win.
Malachi Emerson scored twice for the Heat, while Jordan Robillard and Hayden Johnson gave the Heat a 2-0 only 17 minutes into the game.
With the loss the Pronghorns fall to 1-7-1 on the season and will be on the road again next weekend. The Heat have now earned points in three consecutive games and UBCO's record improves to 2-3-2.
Despite the three-goal margin, the game was closer than the score would indicate. Both teams recorded eight shots on goal, while the Heat had 13 shot attempts to the Pronghorns 12. UBCO had seven corners to the Pronghorns four.
Cole Jackson led all Pronghorns with three shots on goal, while Armaan Thawer, making his second consecutive start in goal, stopped four of the eight Heat shots on goal in the loss.
The Pronghorns will be on the road again next weekend, traveling to Edmonton to face the MacEwan Griffins and Alberta Golden Bears. Following a bye the following week, the Pronghorns will finally be back on home turf, October 14
th hosting the Calgary Dinos.
