Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Cougars take weekend set versus Horns

The Lethbridge Pronghorns fell in their weekend set against the University of Regina Cougars this past weekend in Regina.

Friday night the Cougars used a sharp shooting third quarter to propel them to a 90-65 victory over the Horns at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport on the University of Regina campus.

Friday's game was  a tale of two halves, which started with Lethbridge jumping out to an early advantage and pushing that lead into double digits at one point in the second quarter. Regina closed the half on a run to cut the Horns lead down to 45-39 at the break.

Angelo Mbituyimana paced the Horns with 18 points and & 7 rebounds, while fellow Pronghorn Deng Dak kept rolling off of his recent success, scoring 14 points and 2 rebounds.

Coming out of the break, the Cougars scored 17 straight points as part of a 24-3 run in the third quarter and never looked back. They outscored Lethbridge 32-9 in that period and poured it on in the fourth to end up with the 25-point victory.

Brayden Kuski led all scorers with 21 points for the Cougars, while Carter Miller scored 17, Majok Madol had 13, and Jalen Edwards scored 11.

Saturday night was a tighter matchup between the Horns & Couhars, but unfortunately for the Horns, they weren't able to overcome 3 point lead in the final seconds.

The Pronghorns jumped out of the gates quickly as Jeff Rodehutskors helped the Horns get out to a 19-8 lead, but the Cougars put together a 21-6 run over the next seven minutes to take their first lead of the game.

Regina led 38-35 at the half and led by as many as 14 points in the third quarter, but Deng Dak and Angelo Mbituyimana sparked a 12-2 Lethbridge run that made it a one-point game with four minutes to go.

Lethbridge stayed within a possession of the Cougars until a big Carter Miller three-pointer from the left corner with a minute left put them up four, and on the next possession Millar drove hard to the basket for a layup that made it 73-67.

The Horns had a chance to tie it at the buzzer as they got the ball back with 2.6 seconds to go trailing by three, but the inbounds pass went into the low past and a missed layup sealed the win for the Cougars.

The Pronghorn return home next weekend to face the MacEwan Griffins at the 1st Choice Savings Centre. Tip-off slated for 8PM on Friday and 7PM on Saturday.
