Horns' Early Goal Not Enough as Pandas Claim 3-1 Victory in Season Finale

POST GAME
LETHBRIDGE – On Sunday afternoon at the University of Lethbridge Community Stadium, the Pronghorns fell 3-1 to the University of Alberta Pandas in their season finale. The Horns honoured graduating seniors, playing their final game, with a spirited effort. Rylie Mooney opened the scoring with her first goal of the season, but the Pandas equalized through Wanda Czebreszuk before halftime. The Pandas added two second-half goals, with Myah Craig and Czebreszuk securing the win. Despite strong chances from the Horns, Alberta's defence held firm. The Pronghorns battled hard until the final whistle, but couldn't close the gap, ending the season with heart.

BREAKDOWN
  • The Pronghorns came out strong, looking to build off their momentum from the previous day's tie, with Nicola Hutton firing an early shot just wide of the net.
  • Hailey Slobodian broke through the Pandas' defence in the 3rd minute, testing Alberta's keeper Autumn Wynn, who came up with a key save to keep it scoreless.
  • The Horns struck first, as Chiara Duenser launched a long-range effort that Wynn couldn't control, allowing Rylie Mooney to pounce on the rebound for her first goal of the season, putting the home team up 1-0.
  • The Pandas found their equalizer in the 36th minute, when Wanda Czebreszuk, assisted by Abbie Sheflo, curled a shot into the corner past Oceane McBurney to make it 1-1.
  • Despite dominating possession for much of the first half, with multiple chances from Slobodian and Duenser, the Horns couldn't break through again before the half, sending the teams into the locker rooms tied 1-1.
  • Less than a minute into the second half, Myah Craig capitalized on a misjudgment by the Pronghorns' defence, slotting home a shot with an assist from Erin Hope to give Alberta a 2-1 lead.
  • McBurney made a crucial save in the 55th minute, denying Czebreszuk her second of the game and keeping the Horns within striking distance.
  • However, Alberta's relentless pressure paid off in the 68th minute as Czebreszuk found the back of the net again, securing a two-goal cushion for the Pandas at 3-1.
  • The Pronghorns had a chance to cut the deficit when a slide tackle earned Alberta a yellow card, but Sheflo's free kick rattled off the crossbar, denying them a fourth goal.
  • In the 72nd minute, Julie Reale set up Jorja Herle for a top-corner shot, but Wynn made a spectacular save to preserve Alberta's lead.
  • Both teams pressed hard in the final minutes, but neither could add to the scoreline, and the Pandas closed out the 3-1 victory over the Horns.
  • After the game, the Horns honoured the graduating seniors, celebrating their contributions throughout their Pronghorn careers.
