LETHBRIDGE - University of Lethbridge Pronghorn Women's Basketball is set to open their season with a matchup against the University of Regina Cougars. After an impressive last season that culminated in a 12-8 record, the Pronghorns are eager to build on their success. They made it to the Canada West postseason but faced a tough challenge in the quarterfinals against the University of Victoria Vikes, falling 54-43 in a hard-fought matchup.
Entering his sixth year as head coach, Dave Waknuk is optimistic about the upcoming season. "The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns are looking to build off of last year's successful season, with eleven players returning. The Pronghorns will look to use an uptempo style of play and solid team defense this year. Anchored by Courtney McKee, who was named to the Canada West All-Rookie team in 23/24, the Horns will be led by an experienced and solid core heading into the 24/25 season."
Despite entering the season ranked 11th in the Canada West coaches poll, the Pronghorns have a track record of defying expectations, and they're determined to do so again this year.
Key performer Courtney McKee, a dynamic guard from Stirling, Alberta, is set to make waves in her second season. In her debut year, McKee averaged 8.5 points and 2.8 rebounds per game, showcasing her impressive speed and length on the court. Her ability to stretch the floor and create scoring opportunities for her teammates was a vital part of the Pronghorns' success last season, earning her a spot on the CW All-Rookie Team.
The matchup against the Cougars will be an exciting opportunity for the Pronghorns to demonstrate their growth and depth. With a focus on uptempo play and strong defence, the Horns are ready to make their mark in the Canada West conference.
