WINNIPEG – A dominant 13-0 run in the second quarter helped the Manitoba Bisons pull away for a 77-62 win over the Lethbridge Pronghorns on Saturday night. With the victory, Manitoba improved to 6-1 on the season, while Lethbridge fell to 5-3. The Bisons' surge late in the first half, sparked by 6'7" sharpshooter Barac Thon, put the game out of reach for the Pronghorns, who were unable to recover. Thon's nine points during the decisive run came from beyond the arc, as he finished with a career-high 9 points off the bench in just 12 minutes of action. Despite a combined 29 points from Lethbridge's leading scorers, Angelo Mbituyimana (13 points) and Jack-Henry Fox-Grey (16 points), the Pronghorns couldn't overcome a strong defensive effort from Manitoba. The Bisons' bench also outscored Lethbridge's, 32-27, as Taven Vigilance (11 points) and Samuel Jensen (7 points) made major contributions.
Q1
- Lethbridge led 18-17 after the first, with Jack-Henry Fox-Grey leading the charge with 7 points. The Pronghorns shot 47% from the field, while Manitoba shot 41%. Both teams were feeling out the tempo early, with little separation.
Q2
- Manitoba took control with a 13-0 run, led by Barac Thon, to extend their lead to 38-22 at halftime. Lethbridge struggled offensively, shooting just 17.65% in the quarter, while Manitoba's defense stymied the Pronghorns' attack.
Q3
- Lethbridge fought back, but could only cut the deficit to 60-49. Mbituyimana found his rhythm late, scoring 11 of his 13 points in the second half. However, the Pronghorns continued to struggle from beyond the arc, shooting just 11% from three.
Q4
- The Pronghorns had a strong finish, outscoring the Bisons 25-17 in the final frame, but it was too little, too late. Lethbridge shot 75% from the field in the fourth, but couldn't overcome the large deficit built earlier in the game.
