VANCOUVER – The Horns earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw against the UBC Thunderbirds at Thunderbird Stadium on Friday evening. Despite playing away and under challenging conditions, the Pronghorns showcased grit and defensive effort to secure a valuable point. An opening goal for UBC in the 14th minute was countered by Simon Rolfson's equalizer for the Horns, making sure the game remained tightly contested throughout.
BREAKDOWN
- UBC's early pressure saw Henri Godbout graze the left post and Tomas Pena fire over within the first five minutes, while Max Comsia forced Lethbridge keeper Armaan Thawer into a superb save in the 7th minute.
- UBC took the lead in the 14th minute when Pena converted Joven Mann's through ball with a precise finish from a tight angle.
- Lethbridge responded seven minutes later with their first real chance, as Simon Rolfson directed Will Hughes' cross past UBC goalkeeper Bennett McKay to level the score.
- Kai Sakaguchi missed a golden opportunity to put the Pronghorns ahead in the 36th minute when he directed a rebound from Hughes' shot wide of the target.
- UBC dominated the second half, with Oliver Herbert's shot crashing off the bar in the 54th minute, and he was denied by Thawer moments later.
- Joven Mann's powerful shot in the 57th minute was parried away by Thawer, and his subsequent header from a Chris Lee flick hit the left post.
- The Pronghorns' defense held firm as UBC's free kick in the 74th minute hit the crossbar and Ziad El Hasumi cleared a subsequent scramble off the goalline.
- Connor Mrazek's late chance for UBC failed to find the target, and the teams had to settle for a 1-1 draw.
