Rugby 7s Ready to Make an Impact in the Upcoming Season

LETHBRIDGE – Pronghorns Rugby 7s is back and ready as the 2025 season kicks off. With a dynamic mix of seasoned veterans, rising stars and a well-crafted game plan, the Pronghorns are focused on being competitive in Canada West. Their first action of the 7s season will take place on January 25-26, at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, AB.

Led by the 2024 Canada West Women's Rugby Coach of the Year, Graeme Moffat, the Pronghorns are determined to make their mark this season. The team's roster features a balance of experienced players and emerging talent eager to take the next step.

When asked about the keys to success this season, Coach Moffat emphasized the importance of adapting to the unique demands of 7s rugby. "We're excited to get the 7s season underway, especially after the transition period following the 15s season, during which the girls worked incredibly hard physically in the gym and on their strength and conditioning," said Moffat.

"We're fortunate to have an exhibition match this weekend against Calgary, as a great opportunity to draw a line in the sand. The first 7s tournament is always incredibly challenging. Going from practicing in a gym to playing on a full-sized field—100 by 70 meters—is quite a shift," Moffat added.

"In 7s, speed often makes the difference. We're anticipating a tough battle against all teams this season. The conference is incredibly competitive, with players who have won the silver medal at the Paris Olympics and several international athletes playing for UBC and Victoria. We expect stiff competition, but we're ready for the challenge," said Moffat.

With the season fast approaching, the Pronghorns are primed to showcase their grit, adaptability and passion for the game. As they prepare to face tough competition from some of the best teams in the country, the Horns remain focused on making a lasting impact in Canada West.

The Pronghorns are ready to embrace the challenges ahead. The road to success won't be easy, but this team is built for the fight and fans can expect an exciting and competitive campaign from start to finish.
