Pronghorns Power Through to Sweep Winnipeg, Ending Regular Season on High Note with 79-64 Victory

LETHBRIDGE – In a flurry of offence, the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns women's basketball team has completed the regular season with a sweep. It also pulled the Pronghorns to an even .500 at 10-10 following a 79-64 win over the Winnipeg Wesmen in Canada West play Saturday night at the University of Lethbridge. The win completes the 2-0 weekend after a 70-47 win over the Wesmen Friday. In the rematch Saturday, the Horns were able to make a 48-45 third quarter deficit disappear thanks to back-to-back threes from Abby Stonehocker and Kamryn Deklerk that handed the Pronghorns a 53-48 lead they never relinquished en route to the win as the Pronghorns now look to the Canada West postseason. With the Pronghorns leading 40-37 on a layup from Collier, the Wesmen called a timeout with 3:55 to go in the third quarter. The visitors pulled even at 40-40 and then went on a six-point run to move up 48-42, eventually grabbing a three-point lead heading into the final quarter. It didn't take long for the Horns to snag the upper hand for good as Stonehocker and Deklerk struck from beyond the arc for a 53-48 lead. A layup from McKee for two of her 25 points on the night prompted another Wesmen timeout, but the Pronghorns kept coming, opening up a 12-point, 60-48 lead on a layup from Collier. The Wesmen managed to cut the deficit to 10 at 72-62 late in the game, but the Horns had enough insurance to salt the win and to end the regular season with a pair of wins as the both the women's and men's teams honoured their graduating players prior to the mens' game.
