The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns women's rugby team will open the Canada West Championship on Thursday, taking on the UBC Thunderbirds in a semifinal hosted by the University of Victoria Vikes.

The Pronghorns finished the regular season ranked No. 2 in Canada West with a 4-2 record, earning a spot in the Canada West Championship after a season marked by attacking depth and strong performances against conference opponents.

Lethbridge opened the campaign with a 21-12 road win over the Calgary Dinos before earning a 36-22 victory over the Alberta Pandas in its home opener. After a challenging stretch against Victoria and UBC, the Pronghorns responded with back-to-back wins to close out the regular season.

The Pronghorns defeated Calgary 37-14 on Senior Night at Community Stadium, scoring five second-half tries to pull away. They followed that performance with a 34-26 road victory over Alberta, finishing the regular season with a strong attacking display.

Zina Umeh led the way in the win over the Pandas, scoring three tries and helping set up two others, while the Pronghorns' defensive effort helped secure the result in a back-and-forth contest.

Lethbridge will now face a familiar opponent in the Thunderbirds, who handed the Pronghorns a 51-7 loss earlier in the regular season. The semifinal provides an opportunity for the Pronghorns to build on their progress throughout the campaign and compete for a place in the conference final.

The Canada West Championship is hosted by the Victoria Vikes, with the gold and bronze medal games scheduled for Sunday, October 25.

The Pronghorns take on the UBC Thunderbirds on Thursday, October 22 at 2 p.m. MT in Victoria, B.C. The game will be streamed live on canadawest.tv.
