EDMONTON – The Lethbridge Pronghorns battled back from a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 draw with the Alberta Golden Bears (5-4-5) on Sunday, closing out the regular season with a point on the road. The Pronghorns finish with a record of 5-6-3.
Alberta opened the scoring early when Josh Belbin found space outside the penalty area and sent a shot past Lethbridge goalkeeper Brady McLarty.
The Golden Bears doubled their lead just before the half-hour mark, as Justin George connected on a mid-air volley to give the hosts a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime.
Lethbridge responded in the second half. Joel Jaravata found the back of the net in the 65th minute, sending the ball past Alberta goalkeeper Lucas Robson to bring the Pronghorns within one.
The Pronghorns continued to press and found the equalizer with 10 minutes remaining. Robert Woodroffe-Brown headed home a chipped cross from Micah McCusker to level the score at 2-2.
Both sides looked for a late winner, but neither team added to the scoreline as the match ended in a draw.
The result, combined with Saskatchewan's result, secured the Pronghorns a postseason berth. Lethbridge finishes fourth in the Prairie Division and will travel to Vancouver next week to face the UBC Thunderbirds in the Canada West quarterfinals.
