CALGARY – The Pronghorns men's soccer team picked up its first Canada West win of the season Saturday afternoon, defeating the University of Calgary Dinos 2-0 at McMahon Stadium.
Robert Woodroffe-Brown provided all the offence for the Pronghorns, scoring twice to lead Lethbridge to the shutout victory.
Woodroffe-Brown opened the scoring in the 25th minute, finding the back of the net unassisted to give the Pronghorns an early 1-0 lead.
Lethbridge doubled its advantage just before halftime when Woodroffe-Brown converted a penalty kick in the final moments of the first half.
The Dinos pushed for a response after the break, outshooting the Pronghorns 15-7 overall, but goalkeeper Brady McLarty stood tall in the Lethbridge net. McLarty turned aside all seven shots on target to secure the clean sheet and preserve the Pronghorns' 2-0 lead.
The match was physical throughout, with Lethbridge receiving seven yellow cards and Calgary being shown three.
The victory moves the Pronghorns to 1-1-0 in Canada West play, while the Dinos fall to 2-2-0.
Lethbridge will remain in Calgary for another road matchup Sunday, Sept. 13, taking on the Mount Royal University Cougars.
