LETHBRIDGE – Pronghorn Athletics is pleased to announce the appointment of Greg Gibos as its new Director of Athletics.
Gibos brings a strong background in post-secondary athletics, education and leadership to the position, along with deep ties to the Lethbridge community.
For the past decade, Gibos has led the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks men's volleyball program, serving as head coach since 2016. During that time, he has guided the program to five ACAC medals, CCAA National Championship appearances and ACAC Provincial Finals, while compiling a 136-52 record.
His most recent seasons were one of the program's strongest, as the Kodiaks finished 17-2 in the regular season before earning an ACAC silver medal in 2024-2025. The Kodiaks followed that up with a young, hungry group earning an ACAC Bronze last season. Â Gibos has been recognized 4 times as Lethbridge Polytechnic's coach of the year, and has previously been named ACAC Coach of the Year in 2019. Gibos has also been named Lethbridge Polytechnic's Instructor of the Year in 2025 and 2026 which students commended his passion, relatedness and ability to form connections as key contributors to their success as students.
"I'm so incredibly humbled to join Pronghorn Athletics in this critical role," said Gibos. "Southern Alberta is such a special place for sport, and I've always understood what this program and this institution mean to our community. To now have the opportunity to help lead Pronghorn Athletics is incredibly meaningful to me.
"I've spent my career working with student-athletes, developing people and building teams, and I'm excited to bring those experiences to this role. My goal is to help create an environment where our student-athletes and coaches can thrive, where people feel a strong sense of belonging, and where Pronghorn Athletics continues to be a source of pride for the University, the city of Lethbridge and Southern Alberta."
While much of Gibos' career has been spent on the volleyball court, his experience extends across several areas of post-secondary education. He has worked as an academic advisor and instructor, spent more than 19 years coaching at the high school, club and provincial levels, and has worked closely with students in both academic and athletic settings.
"Greg brings a unique combination of coaching, education and student support experience to this position," said Neil Langevin, Executive Director, Pronghorn Athletics & Recreation. "He understands the post-secondary environment and what it takes to support both the individual student-athlete and the success of a program. Just as importantly, he has built strong relationships throughout our community."
As Director of Athletics, Gibos will work alongside Pronghorn coaches, student-athletes and staff, while building strong relationships with University partners, alumni, supporters and the Lethbridge community. He will provide leadership across the department and help advance the continued growth and success of Pronghorn Athletics.
"I'm excited about what we can build together," said Gibos. "There is tremendous potential within Pronghorn Athletics, and I'm looking forward to working alongside our coaches, student-athletes, staff, alumni and community to help us realize that potential. We're so excited to build that connection and community partnership together and truly make that Pronghorn logo carry tremendous pride and meaning.
"Greg has a proven record of developing people and programs," said Langevin. "We are excited about the experience and perspective he brings to Pronghorn Athletics and look forward to the impact he will have on our department."
Gibos will lead Pronghorn Athletics into its next chapter, bringing his experience, perspective and commitment to student-athletes moving forward.
