LETHBRIDGE - The Pronghorns picked up their first home win under head coach Cedric Bovon on Saturday, taking down the Manitoba Bisons 2-1 at University of Lethbridge Community Stadium.
 
Brynn Birnie opened the scoring in the 13th minute after Kate Kungel found her in behind the Bisons backline. Birnie made no mistake, beating Manitoba goalkeeper Brittany Murphy at the near post to give the Horns an early 1-0 lead and her second goal as a Pronghorn.
 
Strong defending from the Pronghorn backline kept the Bisons to chances from distance throughout the opening half, while the Horns carried their 1-0 lead into the break.
 
Manitoba came out strong in the second half, pinning the Pronghorns in their own end. The pressure eventually paid off when Frankie La found the back of the net in the 57th minute to tie the game at 1-1.
 
The Pronghorns answered in the 71st minute. Bronwyn Pittman played a ball across to the back post, where Kate Kungel was there to finish and put the Horns back in front 2-1.
 
The Bisons pushed for an equalizer late, earning a corner in the final minute and getting a shot on target, but Kate Prince came up with the save to preserve the Pronghorns' lead.
 
The Horns held on for the 2-1 victory and will look to complete the weekend sweep when they face Manitoba again Sunday, September 20 at University of Lethbridge Community Stadium.
