LETHBRIDGE – The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns earned a 1-0 victory over the UNBC Timberwolves on Sunday afternoon at Community Stadium, with Bronson Schlichter scoring the game's only goal in the final minute of regulation.
Neither side found the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes. Lethbridge recorded five shots in the first half, while UNBC had three, with both Tegan Romaine and Callum Cuthbert making two saves.
UNBC had an early opportunity in the second half when Kosta Adzic forced a save from Romaine in the 55th minute. Lethbridge continued to generate chances at the other end, including a shot from Jose Castaneda that hit the post in the 67th minute and a header from Adam Meier that was saved by Cuthbert moments later.
The Pronghorns continued to create opportunities as the half progressed, with Joel Jaravata forcing a save in the 73rd minute and Alessio Gusciglio putting a shot on goal in the 87th minute.
With the game still scoreless in the final minute of regulation, Gusciglio provided the decisive play, setting up Schlichter for his first goal of the season at the 90-minute mark. The goal gave Lethbridge the 1-0 lead, which they held through the final whistle.
Lethbridge finished the game with an 18-10 advantage in shots, including a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. Romaine made four saves to record the shutout, while Cuthbert stopped four of Lethbridge's five shots on target.
The Pronghorns improve to 4-2-1 on the season and will head west next weekend to face Trinity Western on Friday, October 2.
