Female Athlete of the Week:
Jessica Haenni – Women’s Basketball
Returning to Canada West competition after an extending semester break, fourth-year guard Jessica Haenni combined for 37 points in two wins over the Mount Royal Cougars to help the Pronghorn women’s basketball team extend their winning streak to six games.
Friday night, Haenni scored a game high 25 points in the Pronghorns 88-72 win. She had an efficient night shooting, hitting 10-of-17 from the field, while collecting five assists, four rebounds and three steals.
In a game that completed the season sweep of the Cougars, Haenni recorded 12 points on a economical 4-for-8 shooting night in the Pronghorns 96-62 win.
Her performance was also recognized by Canada West being named the Canada West women’s basketball player of the week.
Haenni and her Pronghorn teammates have a bye week this week before returning to action on the road next weekend, traveling to Edmonton to face the MacEwan Griffins

Male Athlete of the Week:
Lauchlan Irish – Men’s Track & Field?
Making his Pronghorn debut, freshman jumper
Lauchlan Irish served notice that he will be a major player in the jumping events this year and for years to come.
At the Golden Bear Open in Edmonton, the Victoria, B.C product placed in the top five in the three jumping events, with his top finish coming in the triple jumping, placing second. With a day best jump of 14.52
metres, Irish now ranks second in Canada West.
He was also third in the high jump with a jump of 1.90
metres and fifth in the long jump, all in his first university meet.
Laughlin will have two more meets to prepare for his first Canada West Championships that will be hosted by the University of Manitoba later this winter.
