Lethbridge – The speedy CIS third ranked Lethbridge Pronghorns proved to be too much for the 10th ranked Calgary Dinos, getting the ball out wide and racing to a 51-7 victory . In the process the five-time defending Canada West Champions finished the conference schedule with a perfect 4-0 record, while the Dinos fall to 2-1.

“I thought at times we looked quite good and at other times there were some handling issues,” said ‘Horns Head Coach Neil Langevin.

“U of C played great defence on us, coming up and closing a lot of channels.”

Canada West leading scorer Cassandra Orr opened the scoring for ‘Horns only four minutes into the game. Kelsey Willoughby took a quick tap and a string of passes got the ball out wide to Orr.

Kendra Reeves was on the end of another set of passes coming off a scrum won by the ‘Horns; Reeves moved the ball across the field and touched the ball down for the ‘Horns second score. Laura Murphy-Burke hit the convert.

‘Horns Freshman Kayla Moleschi broke free on the wide side of the field and raced away from Dino defenders to score her fifth try of the season.

Off a set of rucks near the Dino touch line, Lindsay Duxbury was finally able to punch the ball over the line to round out the scoring in the opening half. Murphy-Burke connected on her second convert to put the ‘Horns up 24-0 at the break.

Only nine minutes into the second half, from a driving maul that covered 15 yards, Lynn Suttie scored the ‘Horns fifth try.

In the 60th minute the Dinos finally hit pay dirt with Samantha Crandell barreling through a couple would be tacklers.

The ‘Horns stormed right back; Willoughby broke free from 20 yards out to score the ‘Horns sixth try.

Three consecutive ‘Horns tries in the final 10 minutes wrapped up the scoring, with Moleschi scoring her second, Sarah Gordon picking up her first and Paula Woynarowsky scoring in stoppage time. Gordon converted one Moleschi’s try.

“I was pleased with some individual efforts tonight, which I don’t usually solo out,” said Langevin. “But Kayla Moleschi, Kelsey Willoughby and Juhee Thompson were Phenomenal tonight.”

“We were also really happy with the forward play. We challenge them to match U of C’s strong pack and I think they did that as evident with the 15-yard driving maul,” concluded Langevin.

The ‘Horns will now wait and see who they will play in the first semi-final next weekend at the Canada West Championships in Calgary. The ‘Horns will face the winner of Saturday’s game between the Victoria-UBC game. The Dinos have one more conference game, traveling to Edmonton on Sunday to face the Alberta Pandas, in a preview of the second semi-final at the Championships.
