Hoping to bounce back after yesterday’s loss, the Pronghorns came out hard in the opening minutes of the first but would struggle to maintain offensive pressure and convert the initial momentum into scoring chances.

In net for the Pronghorns was rookie netminder, Dylan Tait, who got his first start of the season. The Lethbridge native was tested early and often by the Bears, making 42 saves on the night. He withstood early pressure from Alberta, including a powerful blast from the point by Colin Joe that hit the post as well as an up-close effort by Travis Toomey on the doorstep, who was also denied by a quick moving Tait, whose out-stretched stick save kept the game scoreless.

The Bears’ offensive effort through one outperformed that of their opponent, outshooting the ‘Horns 13-5.

After unsuccessful power play chances by both teams in the first half of the second, the pace of the game picked up and saw the teams streaking end to end, each trying desperately to notch a difference maker. Alberta would strike first, however, as Kruise Reddick, whose persistence in the crease paid off, as he chipped his second effort up and over the blocker of Tait at 16:50, making it a 1-0 game.

Shots on goal continued to favor the visiting Golden Bears, outshooting the ‘Horns 16-11 through two.

Heading into the third, Alberta looked to extend their lead and continued to ramp up the pressure on Tait, while Lethbridge battled to knot things up. Shots by Lindemulder, Nichol and Joe were unable to beat the ‘Horns net-minder as Alberta tried to solidify a win in regulation. With less than 90 seconds remaining on the clock, Sean Ringrose fired a rocket from inside the blue line beating Tait top glove side to make it 2-0. The goal with Ringrose’s third in two games.

The ‘Horns would answer back almost immediately as Taylor Gal earned his sixth goal of the season from Dustin Moore, who, with the assist earned his 100th career CIS point at 19:15.

Lethbridge was unable to complete the comeback, however, as Alberta improves to 6-2-2 CW while the Pronghorns fall to 2-6-1 on the campaign.

The University of Alberta Golden Bears are back in action next weekend when they host the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds (5th CW) with a two-game series at Clare Drake Arena in Edmonton.  Meanwhile, the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns travel to east to Winnipeg, where they take on the University of Manitoba Bisons (4th CW) at Max Bell Arena.
