The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men’s hockey team (2-6-1) is looking to right the ship this weekend as they head to Winnipeg to take on the University of Manitoba Bisons (4-2-2).

The Horns have dropped 5 straight and are currently tied with the University of Regina Cougars for the sixth and final playoff spot. Last weekend saw the Horns drop a pair of closely contested games to the Alberta Golden Bears by scores of 3-1 and 2-1 on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Meanwhile, the Bisons are looking to snap a losing streak of their own after being swept by the University of Saskatchewan Huskies last weekend. Friday night’s game saw the Bisons drop a 5-4 contest in overtime before losing another close one by a score of 2-1 on Saturday in the series finale.

The Horns are led by Lethbridge native Taylor Gal who is currently sitting 9th in conference scoring with 8 points. Gal is also currently fourth in goal scoring with 5 goals through ten games. Horns captain Dustin Moore reached a major milestone in the weekend series with the Golden Bears. Moore’s assist on a Taylor Gal goal gave him 100 points for his career in the Blue and Gold.

Sunday afternoon’s game saw backup goalie Dylan Tait get his first career start for the Horns. Tait performed admirably in his relief of usual starter Scott Bowles, stopping 42 of the 44 shots fired his way. Tait is currently sitting on top of the Canada West conference with a 0.964 save percentage.

The Bisons leading scorer heading into the weekend is defenseman Jeremy Schappert with 1 goal and 7 assists through eight games this season.  Forwards Dane Crowley, Blair Macaulay, and Matthew Lowry are next in line with 6 points apiece.

In between the pipes for the Bisons, former Pronghorn Jesse Deckert is sporting a 1.88 Goals Against Average while Joe Caligiuri is ranked first in the conference with two shutouts.

Puck drops for both games at 7:00pm at Max Bell Arena in Winnipeg.
