Lethbridge – Two weeks after suffering their first loss in 22 consecutive conference games, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women’s rugby team (2-1 CW) will finally return to action in their only home game of the Canada West season, hosting the Alberta Pandas (2-0CW) Sunday afternoon.
After opening the season with two convincing wins over the Victoria Vikes and UBC Thunderbirds, 49-5 and 30-3 respectively the ‘Horns lost to the upstart Calgary Dinos 31-18 in Calgary.
The ‘Horns last loss in Canada West regular season play was September 28, 2008 when the Pandas were victorious 9-5.
The Pandas saw their first conference game action September 29
th and 30
th, beating the Victoria Vikes 48-0 before dispatching of the T-Birds, 58-3.
Odds are that Sunday’s game could be a preview of the semi-final match-up next weekend. Calgary currently leads the conference at 3-0, with 15 points, earning a bonus point in each of their three games. The ‘Horns and Pandas are currently tied for second with 10 points, but the Pandas hold a game in hand.
The Pandas will play in Calgary Saturday afternoon and most potential scenarios point to the ‘Horns and Pandas meeting in the second versus third semi-final next weekend at the Canada West Championships hosted by the Pandas in Edmonton.
Kick-off for this Sunday’s game is scheduled for 1:00pm at the University of Lethbridge Community Stadium.
