Ferguson’s soft snapshot through traffic put the visiting team on the score sheet first, less than two minutes in. Adding to their lead moments later, Dyck managed to contain a loose rebound, placing the puck five-hole past Tait.
As the ‘Horns looked to set up on the power play, an offensive zone dump along the boards was unintentionally cut short by an official and an ensuing turnover created a shorthanded opportunity for Ferguson who notched his second goal of the night, his fourth in two games.
Mappin put the home team on the score board six minutes into the first. Streaking through the slot on a power play, Shaeber found him alone beside the net and he quickly buried it blocker side past Cyr, who was unable to get into position.
Golden Bears leading scorer Jordan Hickmott added to his solid season, scoring twice in less than 30 seconds to widen the gap.
Outshooting the ‘Horns 25-6 in the first, U of A’s offensive dominance continued into the second. Thomas Carr’s hard slapper from the point was deflected in by Barteaux echoing off the post and in, beating Ketlo high blocker side.
Pulled down on a breakaway attempt, Lethbridge’s Cumiskey was awarded a penalty shot and rose to the occasion, beating Cyr with a quick deke glove side.
Despite posting one more late goal, the deficit proved insurmountable for the ‘Horns.
With this win, the Golden Bears improve to 5-3-0 while the ‘Horns fall to 0-7-1.
The ‘Horns will look to regroup next week during their bye week and return to action in two weeks time, traveling to Winnipeg to face the Manitoba Bisons, while the Bears will play the Mount Royal Cougars next weekend in a home-and-home series.
